📍神之鄉月光餅

Everyone has their own faith, whether it’s Jesus or Buddha, the faith surely makes people stronger and find the right way in life.

The moonlight cake in the post today takes the concept when Taiwanese pray. Make it into the shape of bwei blocks and also add the wooden sticks for you to write down your wishes.

It is said that moonlight cake were called "poor moon cakes" in ancient times. The poor could not afford moon cakes and other expensive seasonal foods, so they used mashed sweet potatoes or taro as fillings, wrapping them in the dough. This became one of the classic local traditional desserts in Daxi.

You may notice that there are a lot of temples in Taiwan, and the flourishing incense represents the population of the temple.

Yes, buddha is popular in Taiwan. It’s one of the crucial things Taiwanese usually do. Of course, if one feels panic or at sea what to do, he or she may also visit the temple and ask the opinion from the GODS.

Since we don’t know how to speak the God language, tossing the red cups is the only communication way people use.

First, take three incense sticks, light them and bow your head at the main altar.

Stand in front of the goddess, and introduce yourself, what date is today, your birthday, where you come from and where you live…the more details the better!

Next, share your questions, confusions or any emotions with God. The smoke from the incense sticks will take them up to Goddess. Then leave the three incense sticks at different altars.

Take the bwei blocks at the temple. The half-moon shaped stones have to be flicked upwards, and you can get a clear Yes or No based on how they fall.

Once you get a Yes, you can go to the basket with answers. These are long, flat bamboo sticks with a number on them.

What a cute, interesting and meaningful ceremony in Taiwan, right?

If you want to share this special tradition with your foreign friends, the moonlight cake would be your top choice! Makes the wishes come true 🥳
